Today, young people are increasingly facing cyberbullying and cyberhate in the online space. The lines between virtual and real-world aggression are becoming increasingly blurred. This takes a toll on young people’s mental and emotional well-being.
The Taalim-Forum Public Foundation is participating in the international research project “Together Against Online Hate: Prevention and Intervention Strategies for Youth,” implemented with the support of the DAAD in collaboration with research groups from the University of Hamburg, as well as universities in Moldova and Ukraine.
As part of the project, tools were developed and tested to study cyberbullying and cyberhate among young people aged 9 to 25.
In March-April 2025, an online survey was conducted in Kyrgyzstan, in which more than 2,000 students from schools, colleges, and universities participated.
Key areas of study: (1) the prevalence and forms of cyberbullying and cyberhate; (2) young people’s perceptions of threats and forms of aggression online; (3) reactions and self-defense strategies; (4) digital literacy and knowledge of ways to get help.
The data collected will help identify the key challenges young people face in the digital environment and will serve as the basis for developing tailored prevention and protection strategies. This will help educational institutions implement effective measures to reduce the level of digital aggression among students.
Currently, data analysis is underway, and a training module is being developed for workshops targeting students, educators, and school administrators.
The research findings and recommendations developed for the education system will contribute to the development of strategies for constructive response, protection, and prevention of cyberbullying online.
